Science Distance Learning Resources for 2nd-5th Grades

Distance learning has become a new way of life for many teachers and students. We have adapted some of our popular science stations for use in Google Classroom. Here is what we have added to our science stations so that your students can do them at home!

How are teachers teaching science during distance learning? We've added Google Forms and Google Slides to many of our science stations for second grade, third grade, and fourth grade. Teachers can copy the files and assign them to students. All of our science stations cover the Next Generation Science Stations for each grade level and include multimedia components to engage students.

Digital Science Stations

Some of our science stations are easily adapted for distance learning. The WATCH a video, PLAY a video game, READ about science and SORT stations are all available with Google digital components. Read below to see what is in each one.

These stations do not contain a hands-on component that requires extra materials for experiments and activities. They are straight forward stations with a reading passage, activity, and differentiated questions.

We have created special Distance Learning bundles of the WATCH, PLAY and SORT stations for each grade level:

Watch a Video

The WATCH a video science station has a Google Form with either an embedded video or a link to the video and differentiated questions. Each video has its own Google Form so you can assign them separately.

We have created BUNDLES of the Watch a Video station for each grade level:

Play a Video Game 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades

The PLAY a video game is only available in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. Included is a Google Form with a link to the video game and the differentiated questions. Each video game has its own Google Form so that you can assign it separately.

We have created BUNDLES of the PLAY a Video Game station for each grade level:

Play a Game 5th Grade

For 5th grade, we have moved away from video games toward a board game, word search, and crossword puzzle options. The word searches and crossword puzzles are available digitally.

Read about Science

The READ science stations are all available in Google Forms. Included are the reading passage and the differentiated questions. Teachers can choose which questions their students answer and assign just those questions.

We have created special BUNDLES of the READ about Science Stations.

Sort

All of the sorts are available in Google Slides and Google Forms. For 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades, the reading passage is in the Google Slide along with the sorting activity. The differentiated questions are available in a Google Form.

For 5th grade, the reading passage is available in the Google Form, along with the differentiated questions. The sorting activity is by itself in the Google Slide.

Our Sorts are also available in grade-level bundles:

5th Grade Science Stations

We are including Google Forms in all of our 5th grade science stations (and eventually will add them to the other grade levels). The Google Forms include links to the videos, the reading passages, and differentiated questions.

We also have Google Slides for many of the stations. The Google Slides have the activity of the station. It includes the student directions page and activity recording sheets. Not all of the activities are appropriate for distance learning. Many of them can be completed at home, with parents, but they do require extra materials and hands-on work.

We have completed the following station sets:

5E Units for Third Grade

All of our 5E Units also come with a teacher presentation and student sheets in Google Slides. We have 15 5E units available for third grade.

Google slides and powerpoint options for Third Grade 5E Unit Plans offer a paperless option for students and teachers.

What are we continuing to convert to Digital?

We will continue to work on publishing the 5th grade science stations. Each science station will contain some digital components for Google Forms and Google Slides. We will also add digital elements to the remaining 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade science stations.

Not all science stations are conducive to distance learning, as they may have hands-on experiments and activities. We will mimic the 5th grade sets, providing the reading passages and questions in Google Forms and the activity directions and recording sheets in Google Slides.
